Server attempted to load chunk saved with newer version of minecraft!

When you start a Minecraft server running PaperMC, you can sometimes receive the following error, followed by a hard crash stopping the server from starting up at all!

Server attempted to load chunk saved with newer version of minecraft! 3120 > 3105

This happens when you switch between Minecraft versions in such a way that you are using a world that has run a newer version of Minecraft, but you are now using an older server version. For example the above error comes when switching the Minecraft version to 1.19 after initially creating the world using a later 1.19.2 build.

The best way to avoid this issue is never downgrading your Minecraft version as newer world data can have issues when running older versions of Minecraft. The best way to fix the above case would be switching back to running Minecraft 1.19.2. Or restoring a backup that was taken before the server was upgraded.

If you do absolutely need to go backwards in version, always ensure you take a manual backup first to protect your data. You can do this at any time from your Minehost server panel, but your server must be stopped first.
